The Rising Star
From Then to Now
Influenced at an early age by the "straight" jazz piano style of Les
McCann and Ramsey Lewis, Yancie was caught by the sweet tones of the
vibraphone during the Latin "craze" of the 1960s. He attributes his
deepest influence to the masters: Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, and
Cal Tjader.
As a product of the Oakland jazz scene Yancie has entertained many Bay
Area audiences for more than four decades. For the last seventeen
years Yancie has entertained his jazz fans every Sunday night at
Oakland's popular Fifth Amendment. As a part time resident of
Sonoma County Yancie also performs regularly at Guerneville’s Main
Street Station as well as across the larger North Bay wirh its many
festivals and winery events. In the context of such
regional events Yancie has co-starred with major Jazz giants, such as,
Pharaoh Sanders and John Handy
Since 1992 Yancie’s unique vibraphone sound and driving percussive style
has become cherished by an ever growing international audience. In 1994
Yancie traveled across the Pacific to perform with another Jazz giant,
Paul Jackson in Tokyo. Having repeatedly performed and having made many
new musical friends in France, Holland and Germany Yancie is currently
